Product Overview
The T629 family is the only cloth-based line in the official selection guide covering all scenarios: room temperature, microscope slides, cryovials and conical tubes.
Lab231-629 is a laboratory cloth-based identification label using nylon cloth as the face stock, for the full temperature range from -196 °C LN₂ to 121 °C autoclaving. Format 35 × 16 mm, 500-1000 labels per roll, intended for labeling the side walls of cryovials and microcentrifuge tubes and the frosted end of microscope slides in biobanks.
The ultra-narrow 16 mm format is the key difference from the 35 × 25 mm and 50 × 30 mm formats in the same series: when applied to the side of small-diameter tubes it does not overrun top or bottom, and when wrapped around narrow tubes the overlap area stays clean. The layout is set in single-line format, so the ID, date and a short barcode are read in one line. The nylon cloth base is easy to apply, conforms well and withstands high and low temperatures, with no lifting on curved surfaces and no corner curling; both rounded and square corner die-cuts are available.
Key Features
Narrow
Ultra-narrow 16 mm
35 × 16 mm narrow-strip format: single-line labeling on small-diameter tube side walls without overrun, keeping the tube visually clean and barcode reading uncompromised.
Fit
Cloth base conforms to curved surfaces
The nylon cloth material follows the curvature of the tube body, adhering flat even on the small-radius surfaces of microcentrifuge tubes and cryovials.
Temp
Qualified across all four temperature tiers
Official material selection guide T629: suitable for LN₂ -196 °C, freezer -80 °C, hot water 100 °C and autoclaving 121 °C.
Print
Cryogenic ribbon system
Matches BRL-80-BK / BRL-110-BK laboratory cryogenic ribbons, printing with M611, EOS2/3 and MACH4S printers.

Typical Applications
LN₂ cryovials
Long-term storage in gas-phase/liquid-phase LN₂ tanks; the narrow format wraps around the tube body, maintaining adhesion and legibility at ultra-low temperatures.
Microcentrifuge tube side walls
Single-line labeling on the side walls of 0.5 mL/1.5 mL small tubes; the 16 mm height matches the straight section of the tube body.
Frosted end of microscope slides
Slide archiving in biobanks; the narrow strip aligns with the frosted writing area, single-line ID.
Freeze–thaw and autoclaving workflows
Specimens move between -80 °C freezers, 100 °C hot water rewarming and 121 °C autoclaving; the cloth base withstands high and low temperatures.
From LN₂ to the Autoclave: One Freeze–Thaw Chain
Daily life in a biobank is a repeated round trip of temperatures: cryovials are taken out of the LN₂ tank, rewarmed in 100 °C hot water or at room temperature, aliquoted and then autoclaved at 121 °C, before returning to a -80 °C freezer or LN₂ tank for continued storage. Along the entire chain the label undergoes repeated shocks of rapid cooling and heating.
- Before entering the tank: apply the label and press it down firmly while the tube wall is dry and frost-free; for wrap-around application, wrap at least once around the tube body with the ends overlapping. After removal from a low-temperature environment the tube body frosts over, and re-labeling at this point can leave hidden risks, so it is recommended to apply the label once, right after printing.
- During use: racks move in and out of the liquid and gas phases of LN₂; the narrow label takes up no extra tube body space and does not catch on edges when placed in or removed from rack compartments.
- Rewarming stage: during 100 °C hot water rewarming, the cloth base and adhesive layer rewarm together, with no corner lifting caused by temperature differences.
- Autoclaving stage: 121 °C autoclaving is an added advantage of the cloth-based line over film materials; the print remains scannable after autoclaving.
FAQ
Q: How much information fits on one line of 35 × 16 mm?
A: In single-line layout: we recommend two segments, ID plus date, or one short Code128 barcode. If you need multiple lines such as batch and operator name, we recommend the 35 × 25 mm or 50 × 30 mm format in the same series.
Q: What should be noted when applying labels in an LN₂ environment?
A: The common practice for ultra-low temperature scenarios is wrap-around application with appropriate end overlap: overlapping cloth surfaces increase the adhesion area and resist edge lifting during repeated handling. After application, press firmly along the tube body.
Q: How do I choose between this and the 35 × 25 mm and 50 × 30 mm versions?
A: Choose this version for single-line information on small-diameter tubes; choose a larger format for two or more lines or when a prominent title is needed. All three use the same T629 material with identical temperature performance.
Q: Which ribbon and printer should be used?
A: BRL-80-BK / BRL-110-BK laboratory cryogenic ribbons, compatible with M611, EOS2/3 and MACH4S laboratory label printers.
Selection & Usage Guide
1
Confirm tube diameter and application method
Choose this version for single-side labeling on small tubes; if wrap-around coverage of a larger area is needed, confirm the tube circumference and allow for end overlap.
2
Print in single-line layout
Arrange ID and date on one line and leave sufficient barcode height; before printing, run a test print with the cryogenic ribbon to check density.
3
Apply and press firmly
Align with the tube body, apply, then press along the length to expel air bubbles before placing in the freezer or LN₂.
Temperature Tier Notes
Note: -196 °C and -80 °C are ultra-low temperature tiers; please use ultra-low temperature materials such as T629 and T429. T419 and T329 are economy grades for environments above -40 °C; do not mix the two in LN₂ scenarios.
