Product Overview

Lab183-629 is a cryogenic label using T629 nylon cloth as the face stock, with a single-label size of 22.86 × 12.7 mm. It is supplied in a full-roll three-column layout and is designed for labeling cryovials, test tubes and conical tubes in biobanks under temperatures from -196 °C LN₂ to +121 °C autoclaving.

22.86 × 12.7 mm is a commonly used horizontal small format for cryovial bodies. At only 12.7 mm in height, a single label does not cross the graduation lines or cover the cap threads once applied to the tube wall. The roll is arranged in three columns across the web width, so one row of output can label three tubes in succession. During batch accessioning in a biobank, aliquoting, labeling and scanning can be completed in one continuous workflow — this is the main difference between this item and single-label formats in the same series.

Key Features

Four benefits of the three-column roll format for small-diameter tubes

列
Three columns across the web width
The full roll carries three columns of labels across the web width. One row of output allows three cryovials to be labeled consecutively, eliminating the need to pick labels one by one during batch accessioning in a biobank and significantly speeding up the labeling cycle.
身
22.86 × 12.7 mm standard tube-body format
The horizontal small format conforms to the tube-body curvature without covering graduation lines or cap threads. Adjacent positions in a rack do not interfere with each other, and tube-body information remains readable from the front.
布
Nylon cloth face stock conforms to curved surfaces
The cloth substrate bends and conforms to the curved tube wall. It resists lifting and detachment after repeated insertion and removal from cryoboxes and freeze–thaw cycles, giving a high labeling pass rate.
稳
Handles four temperature environments
According to the official material guide, T629 is rated for four environments: -196 °C LN₂, -80 °C freezer, 100 °C hot water and 121 °C autoclaving. One label covers the entire workflow from cryopreservation to recovery and sterilization.

Three-Column Roll Layout & Printing Guide

Fitting key information clearly within a 12.7 mm height

  • Simultaneous three-column layout: when all three columns carry identical content, printing a full row is the most efficient. If the three columns need to carry different sample group numbers, set variable fields per column in the printing software to complete three sets of numbers in a single pass.
  • Single-line priority: at a 12.7 mm height, we recommend printing only one line of primary information (sample number or barcode), with secondary information such as date and batch compressed into short codes or carried by a 2D code.
  • Minimum character height: for single-line layouts, a character height of no less than 2 mm is recommended. Combined with 300 dpi print resolution, this ensures markings remain legible after freeze–thaw cycles.
  • Prepare the surface before labeling: wipe off any condensation or frost on the tube wall first. Apply and press firmly at room temperature before placing into LN₂, allowing initial adhesion to fully develop before exposure to ultra-low temperatures.
  • Run a small sample first: three-column output places demands on printer registration accuracy. Before full-scale production, print a short run to verify column spacing and cut position.

Typical Applications

Batch accessioning and tube labeling in biobanks
After newly received samples are aliquoted into cryovials, labels are printed and applied continuously. The three-column layout matches the pace of batch operations in a biobank, shortening turnaround from aliquoting to racking.
LN₂ cryopreservation of cell lines and strains
The horizontal small-format label conforms to the tube wall and does not become brittle or detach during long-term storage in -196 °C LN₂. Tubes can be quickly located by the front-facing number during recovery.
Aliquot identification for test tubes and conical tubes
This horizontal format can be applied to test tube and conical tube bodies, capturing aliquot batch, medium type and preparation date in one label. Conical tubes are also covered per the T629 material guide.
Accompanies the full workflow from cryopreservation to autoclaving
A single label stays with the container through -80 °C freezer retrieval, 100 °C hot water bath and 121 °C autoclaving, with no need to replace or re-apply labels midway.

FAQ

Q: How do I choose between the three-column roll and single-label formats?
A: It depends on your workload. For batch tube labeling in a biobank where output efficiency matters, choose this three-column roll. If you only need to add labels to a small number of tubes, or need a larger format for multiple lines of information, single-label formats in the same series such as 35 × 25 mm and 35 × 16 mm are more suitable.
Q: How much information fits on 22.86 × 12.7 mm?
A: A single horizontal label is suitable for one line of primary number plus one 2D code, or one line of number plus one line of short date code. If multiple lines of text are required, we recommend a taller format to avoid character sizes too small to read after freeze–thaw.
Q: What should I note when labeling tubes stored in LN₂ tanks?
A: Apply and press firmly at room temperature, then let stand until the adhesive bond is stable before placing into LN₂. Wipe off any frost on the tube wall before applying. For LN₂ applications requiring wrap-around bonding, refer to T429 (3 mm overlap at ends) or T509 overlap requirements; T629 is designed for flat application.

Selection & Usage Guide

Four steps to confirm whether this item suits your needs

1
Confirm the lowest temperature requirement
If samples go into -196 °C LN₂ or a -80 °C freezer, choose this T629 item. If the entire workflow stays above -40 °C, compare T419 gloss white PET or T329 matte white PP for better cost efficiency.
2
Check tube body and format
22.86 × 12.7 mm corresponds to horizontal application on cryovial and test tube bodies. For more information capacity or cap-top labeling, switch to a larger size in the same series.
3
Prepare printing consumables
Thermal transfer requires BRL-80-BK or BRL-110-BK laboratory cryogenic ribbon, and the printer must be a compatible model such as M611 / EOS2/3 / MACH4S. Run a small test print before changing ribbons.
4
Test-apply and verify with freeze–thaw
Label several actual containers and press firmly, then complete one LN₂ or freezer cycle. Confirm there is no edge lifting and that barcodes scan before scaling up to full rolls.
Note: Clean the tube wall with 70% alcohol and let it dry thoroughly before labeling. Apply and press firmly at room temperature, let stand, then place into LN₂. Containers just taken out of low-temperature environments will have condensation that weakens adhesion if labeled immediately — wait until they return to room temperature. Verify printer registration accuracy before three-column roll output.
For more materials and specific applications, please contact our product manager for selection assistance. T629 is the cloth label material in the official material guide that covers room temperature, microscope slide, cryovial/test tube and conical tube applications simultaneously, helping biobanks reduce the number of specifications stocked.
